Waterslide
Day 3, mile 19.5
Elevation: 9,400 feet

We continue our descent down Cascade Valley alongside Fish Creek and have essentially reached the half-way point of the trip. Here, as Phil stops to slather some Jungle Juice, Scott climbs out onto the rocks in the creek to photograph one of the many waterslides which can be found along the way. It is near lunchtime and Scott would like to stop at one of these to eat and admire the beauty, but the mosquitos dictate otherwise. Instead he grabs a Powerbar from his pack and eats it as they continue walking as fast as possible. With a pack on, it is not possible to outrun the she-devils, but the attacks are definitely minimized with a quick pace.

The sky, which had been flawlessly sparkling blue earlier, has begun to turn gray. At one point Scott prognosticates, "We're going to get dumped on".
